Response to Course Material
So far everything we have learned so far in this course has really made me think back to my favorite books I have had the opportunity to read in my life. Just being in class reminded me of when I was in second grade and I hated reading, I thought it was the absolute worst, now it is hard to picture not loving literature and that reminded me of what made me fall in love with books. Harry Potter, I have now read the entire series multiple times and each time I read it I discover different connects and meanings that the author uses to connect all the books together. It makes me think in class how we discuss style, motifs, and coming full circle. Now that I think about those concepts and the Harry Potter books I realize how often J.K. Rowling uses these techniques to make the books complicated and exciting. It also amazes me how authors all have different voices and styles that can make two similar books completely different because of the different authors.
Hi Marie,
ReplyDeleteI though it was really interesting how you brought everything that we learned back to HP! You are right, JKR uses some really good literary tools and motifs that can be hard to see if you don't understand the material, like the type of Hero Harry is, and the significance of the 7 books (I heard once that JKR meant it to be a resurrection story, like Jesus, because each book Harry is "born" again with new knowledge.) As a fellow PotterHead, I'll have to reread them again and see what more I can get from them, literature wise. Thanks for the cool idea :)

I love Harry Potter too! Its nice that thats what you thought of! But i totally agree with how different authors have extremely different voices and that that can change a story if told by two different people.

ReplyDeleteI strongly considered doing my entire Foster Presentation on Harry Potter, it is so well written. This has given me a good idea; next time a concept is really confusing and unrelatable in class, I will just try to figure out how it is applied in Harry Potter, and then it won't seem so foreign. Thanks Marie!
