Diagnostic Test Experience
My experience taking this test was not bad at all. I did not know what to expect going into it but after taking it and going through the questions I discovered that it was not too difficult. I personally love the book Pride and Prejudice so I was pleasantly surprised when we had to read a section of it and answer questions about it. I also thought that the section about the Aftermath of The Civil War was an interesting addition to this test because it was very different than the other sections we had to read. Unfortunately I did discover that poetry does not come as easily to me as I thought it had in the past. I wish to become better at interpreting poetry because I find it very interesting and easy to relate to most of the time.

I'm glad that it was a positive experience and that you like poetry--there are a lot of people who let their frustration with the difficulty level of poetry turn them off to it, but you seem to be someone who really appreciates what poetry has to offer.
ReplyDeleteHi Marie!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to agree when you said poetry didn't come as easily to you as you originally thought... I feel the same way! Granted the poems are a little deeper in AP Lit, but it can get a bit overwhelming sometimes. When we read The Century Quilt the other day I was really lost, but at least we have a lot of time before the AP test. Have your thoughts on poetry changed since this summer?

Those poems were deep... I figure we just need more practice figuring out what an author is going for. You obviously have the skills to interpret literature, since you felt good about the test, so I'm sure you have the skills to decipher poetry too. We have read so much prose in school, and didn't really start on poetry until Brit lit, so we really haven't developed the right strategies yet. But we'll get there.
